This coin depicts an ancient Athenian owl standing on a tree branch. The same owl was minted on the Tetradrachm coin back in ancient Athens. The original coin depicts the goddess of Athena on one side, and on the reverse was this owl. On this coin, the owl holds a key position on the obverse, and the opposite remained like all New Zealand coins. It depicts Queen Elizabeth II, with a circle indicating the issuing country, denomination, and year of issue.
The coin is made in silver and blue tones, and as a color accent, there are two red crystals on the eyes of an owl. The background of the obverse is decorated with the crescent moon and the olive branch of the world, which also came from the design of the ancient coin. The eyes decorated with the crystals represent the night vision and wisdom of the owl. The coin combines 1 ounce of silver, elegant design, and historical significance of the image of an owl in ancient Greece. The coin has a color image of the Acropolis on the obverse and also has a patinated finish. This technology gives the effect of aging, which emphasizes the historical feature of the coin design.
This is one of the ten coins in the collection, and its peculiarity is the image of the Acropolis of Athens on the obverse background. In ancient Greece, each city had its own Acropolis, but the most famous and most significant of them is in Athens. It is built on a hill, where the view is magnificent. Initially, it had a defensive function. It was supposed to shelter the citizens if the city was captured. From the hill, it's also convenient to observe the movements of enemies.
